I’m a Mexican potter based in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Although my background is not art-related (I have a major in International Business and worked as a Sales Forecast Analyst for a big multinational company). I come from a family who is deeply rooted in the arts, so I guess it was a matter of time for me to find my medium of expression.
Ever since I can remember, I have had this curiosity for materials that were modeled and transformed into something completely different. My parents would often find me building stuff with dirt or playing with slime because I liked “the sensorial feeling” of it in my fingertips. Like most of the hobbies I enjoy (sewing, embroidery, making elaborate pastries, etc), I learned the majority of the things I now know about pottery by watching others and studying different techniques from YouTube videos. What began as a hobby has now become an obsession, a passion.
I’m a fairly new potter finding my own voice and experimenting in a world of endless possibilities. I make functional stoneware, decorative pieces, and the occasional fun project.
I’m really interested in learning new glazing techniques, how to operate a kiln and sculpting techniques. I love carving intricate designs on my pieces and transferring some of my embroidery skills and techniques onto the clay, and on some days, as crazy as it sounds, I feel as though the clay “speaks” to me.
