2018 Workshop with Amy Sanders at NCSU Crafts Center

Amy Sanders is a full time studio potter whose work is exhibited nationally and includes a public art tile project for the city of Charlotte. For 17 years, Amy has taught throwing and hand building in Charlotte and led workshops nationwide. Her training includes a BA in art and a residency at the McColl Center for Visual Art. She has had a DVD published by the Potters Council.
The workshop will feature two learning options –
1. A one day, demo workshop on Saturday July 14.
Amy will demonstrate a variety of functional forms including serving pieces, vases, sculptural bowls, and wall pieces. The workshop will mainly focus on soft slab construction and enhancing surfaces with stamped patterns. Techniques will include pinching, folding and use of molds and paper templates. There will be some thrown and altered pots demonstrated as well. Amy will share glaze recipes.

2. A two-day, demo + hands-on workshop on Saturday July 14 and Sunday July 15 (limited to 20 people).
Based on learning from day 1, participants will create several forms, including a vase, an altered slab cup, and a wallpiece. They will also make personal mark-making and texturing tools to use in their own work. Emphasis will be placed on successfully resolving feet, rims and handles.
