At our September meeting Charlie Tefft will throw and cut fold a bowl into a butter dish lid. Sculpt a wren that sits on top as a handle. And create the base from a thrown slab. He’ll talk about how to size the bowl to fit a butter stick after the shrinkage of drying and firing.
Bio:
One spring a pair of Carolina Wrens took up residence in the rafters of my studio. I watched them raise two sets of babies over that summer. Day in and day out they would move upon the rafter calling down to me, always feeding their babies. It is instances like these that lead me to making my best work. The summer of Carolina wrens nestled into the depths of my mind, and over time I began to create work about that experience.
With my pottery, I aspire to foster a sense of connection and mindfulness. I believe that incorporating art into our daily lives. We can cultivate a deeper appreciation for the world around us. My pottery serves as a reminder to slow down, savor the present moment and cherish the beauty and diversity of our natural surroundings.
Ultimately, my goal is to create artwork that not only enriches our visual experiences, but also inspires a deeper connection to nature and the animals in our environment.
